Introducing the mobile version of this site

Written on 7/September/2014 by

When I began building this site, 10 years ago, I couldn't imagine that it would make such a long way, let alone that a day would come when more than a half of its visitors browsed it swiping their finger across the screen of a mobile phone... in those years (2004) the latest in mobile phones were those that incorporated a camera and mp3 player!

But everything changes sooner or later, and according to statistics now up to 62% of visitors to this site are using some kind of smartphone to access it, so it was crystal clear that the time had came for me to make a mobile version of the site.

The truth is that I was a bit lazy to do this, because it may seem like a small thing, but technically it takes many hours to make everything work right, now every thing I do on the web has to be done in 4 languages (Spanish, English, Portuguese and Chinese) and taking into account both the desktop version and the mobile one, it gives 8 different combinations, and sooner or later I should be adding a French version...

So I hope that the mobile version makes this site more enjoyable and easy to use for all the people who access it from these devices, I confess that I have no smartphone now, back when phone companies gave them away for free I had a couple of them, but they drowned in several rough landings in Cape Verde... (they were smart but didn't swim).

One of the hardest things to make a mobile version of a web site is to make sure it displays well on all devices, and also detecting whether a device is a mobile phone, tablet or desktop computer is not as simple as it might seem, then all notifications about problems or suggestions for improvement are welcome, actually the mobile version is displayed automatically for iPhone and Android devices, which are the most common, but you can always switch from one version to the other using the icons at the beginning of each page.

Nacho (the webmaster)

During many years an unhappy Unix sysadmin, in 2004 began making this website, mostly in spanish, and tried to live my life in a more sensible way.

I was born in Spain 45 years ago, in 1999 moved to Madrid and began my short sysadmin career, then in 2008 moved to a small sailing boat and have being going from one place to the next until 2018, when I settled down in the Azores islands.
